Adult Literacy Services

Teach an adult to read. Inspire the world to change. Volunteer today!

Placentia Library District provides one-to-one tutoring for English Literacy and Computer Literacy. All tutoring sessions are held in the Placentia Library.

English Literacy

Open to adults who need basic reading, writing and functional literacy skills. English literacy tutoring at Placentia Library is a six-month to one-year program, where the students focus on achieving personal goals through reading and writing practice. English Literacy tutoring can be viewed as a stepping stone to other educational opportunities, such as a community college course, GED testing, an ESL program, or U.S. citizenship.

Computer Literacy

Open to adults who would like to improve their basic computer skills. A variety of skills from basic computer skills to Microsoft programs or Email functionality can be focused on during your tutoring sessions.

"As a volunteer literacy tutor, I enjoy connecting with people from different cultures. I admire the courage and perseverance of students as they learn the English language. It’s a mutual learning experience helping others succeed with confidence and new life skills."

- Lynn Krisinger, Placentia Library Literacy Tutor

Adult Literacy students must be 18 or older and speak enough English to communicate with their tutor. A student and tutor will work together for at least one hour per week, over a minimum of six months. Applications for both programs are available in the Library or by clicking on these links: English Literacy or Computer Literacy. Please submit your completed application to the Information Desk. If you have questions, please contact the Information Desk at 714-528-1906.
