Adult Literacy
Placentia Library District provides one-on-one tutoring for adults who want to improve their basic reading and writing skills. Tutoring is a six-month to one-year program where the learners focus on achieving personal goals through reading and writing practice and is offered at flexible days and times that work for you.
Become a Learner
Placentia Library's free literacy instruction is open to adults 18 years or older who want to improve their basic reading and writing skills in order to achieve personal literacy goals such as:

Read mail or healthcare information

Read a book or newspaper

Help a child with homework

Get a job
-
Obtain a high school equivalency certificate
Adult literacy tutoring can also be a stepping stone to other educational opportunities, such as a community college course, GED testing, or U.S. citizenship.
Become a Tutor
Did you know that 20% of adults in the U.S. read at or below the basic level needed to earn a living wage? Volunteer to help an adult learner improve their basic reading and writing skills to achieve personal goals. No experience is required. We will provide training, support and materials.
