Adult Literacy

Placentia Library District provides one-on-one tutoring for adults who want to improve their basic reading and writing skills. Tutoring is a six-month to one-year program where the learners focus on achieving personal goals through reading and writing practice and is offered at flexible days and times that work for you.

Become a Learner

Placentia Library's free literacy instruction is open to adults 18 years or older who want to improve their basic reading and writing skills in order to achieve personal literacy goals such as:

  • Read mail or healthcare information

  • Read a book or newspaper

  • Help a child with homework

  • Get a job

  • Obtain a high school equivalency certificate

Adult literacy tutoring can also be a stepping stone to other educational opportunities, such as a community college course, GED testing, or U.S. citizenship.
