Placentia Library Director Message (December 14, 2021)

Dear Placentia Library District Patrons,

In accordance with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), the Placentia Library District is suspending its current mask exemption. Effective December 15, 2021 - January 15, 2022, patrons two years and older must properly wear their masks (covering both the nose and mouth) while inside the library, regardless of vaccination status. If you are unable to comply with the updated mask requirement for any reason, please contact our team and they will be happy to assist you with our online services, including e-book rentals, curbside service, and virtual programming.

The Omicron variant has been detected across California and appears to be spreading more easily, and quickly, than the original virus or Delta variant. CDPH reports “Since Thanksgiving, the statewide seven-day average case rate has increased by almost half (47%) and hospitalizations have increased by 14%.” The state-mandated mask requirement is being reinstated to add an extra layer of protection against Omicron. Past masking and vaccines have protected our patrons, kept our team safe and enabled our Library to remain open for in-person service throughout this pandemic. We respect everyone’s personal decisions and hope you understand ours.

Please drive carefully – heavy rain continues to persist. Be kind to one another and be safe.

Respectfully,

Jeanette Contreras
Library Director
