Placentia Library Director Message: Happy Easter (April 12, 2020)

April 12, 2020

Dear Placentia Library District Patrons,

Happy Easter!

On this day of renewal and resurrection, we hope you and your family are safe and healthy as we continue to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. As a society, we are rising to meet the daily challenges and unknowns. With enduring faith in one another’s kindness and humanity, we can overcome any fears and vulnerabilities.

In the midst of such uncertainty and suffering, one of the amazing actions occurring is our bonding as families. These bonds often taken for granted, are now the focus of our daily lives. We are reminded the true meaning of life is love, for our family, first responders, healthcare workers, essential workers, the homeless, and those near and far. Recall how you’ve spent your last three weeks being sheltered-in-place. The satisfaction of engaging daily dinner conversations with your family. How many times have you shared a good book with your children? How often have you phoned or facetimed your parents? What new skills have you acquired? How much reading have you done? How special was it to decorate eggs this year as a family? The coronavirus need not overcome us, rather, it shines a light on our strength and resilience. When this is all over, and it will be, we can look back and be proud of our displays of love for one another.

As many of us celebrate Easter today, let us acknowledge it as a joyful occasion, filled with courage and hope – even without many of usual rituals. I feel immense gratitude for our staff who have opened their hearts and given themselves to bringing the love and joy of reading into our patrons’ lives. My gratefulness extends to our patrons as well – for supporting our staff and cheering them on during their virtual storytimes and the positive social media comments. Your energy and participation keeps us going!

On behalf of our Library Board and library staff, we wish you an uplifting day filled with joy and hope. We miss you, and look forward to seeing you at the library when it’s open again! Please stay home and stay safe.

Sincerely,

Jeanette Contreras
Library Director
