Placentia Library Director Message: Library Rollback to Phase 1 (July 2, 2020)

Dear Placentia Library District Patrons,

The second surge is here. Recently, coronavirus cases and hospitalizations have been steadily increasing. Since March 27, 2020, cases in Placentia have gone from 5 to 258. Within the last 15 days, the cases in Placentia have jumped 40%. Fourteen other counties are experiencing similar increases. Consequently, the Governor has issued an amended order with stricter restrictions that includes the closures of bars, indoor operations for restaurants, wineries, movie theaters, family entertainment centers, zoos, museums and cardrooms.

In recognition of this increased health concern, and with an abundance of caution, our Library Board has authorized the library to rollback to Phase 1. We are taking the necessary measure to ensure the safety of our patrons, staff and volunteers. The re-phasing will be effective Friday, July 3, 2020.

Patrons can continue to request items using our curbside and home delivery service. Home delivery is available to Placentia residents only. Curbside and home delivery hours for Phase 1 will be Monday-Saturday, 10am-5pm. Virtual programming and e-content will continue to be available. The library building will not be open. Passport, computer access, and test proctoring are no longer available until further notice. The bookstore is closed and donations are not being accepted at this time. Both bookdrops will remain open during our Phase 1 hours for patrons to return their library items.

We also recognize the need for our patrons to have access to computers – especially those who are unemployed, and those without internet connection at home. As a result, we have allocated funds to purchase new Laptops and hotspots that will soon be available for checkout. Checkout period is two weeks. Please visit our website at https://pldca.specialdistrict.org/ for updates. Feel free to call us at (714) 528-1906 x210 if you need additional assistance.

We will continue to assess our opening plan to ensure the safety of you, your family, our staff and volunteers. We want to thank our patrons who have visited us in person. You have been wonderful and we truly appreciated your adherence to the safety guidelines. We will see you at curbside, virtual storytime and STEAM programs. Together, we can make a difference.

Sincerely,
Jeanette Contreras
Library Director
